CLASS 2 - March 18th

Hello 3SS!

How are you all holding up with the quarantine? I hope you are all doing well.

Today we will work on finding out about the upcoming holiday of March 24th. If you were not aware, next Tuesday, that is March 24th, there is a national holiday in our country. I would like you to find out what the holiday is about by completing these activities:

Activity 1) LISTENING COMPREHENSION

Listen to this song by clicking on this link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MS_bN5ECJTI.

a) Complete the missing parts of the song below.

b) Make a list of the words that indicate actions (verbs) and the words that indicate things or persons (nouns and pronouns)

They Dance Alone (Cueca solo)
Sting

Why are these women here dancing on their own?
Why is there this sadness in their eyes?
Why ___ the _______ here
Their faces fixed like stone?
I can't ___ what it is they despise
Dancing with the missing
They're dancing with the dead
They dance with the invisible ones
Their anguish is unsaid
They're dancing with their __________
They're dancing with their ____________
Dancing with _______  ____________
_____ dance_____ alone
They _______ _____
The only form of protest they're allowed
I've seen their silent faces, they ____________so loud
If they were to ________ these words
They'd go missing, too
Another woman on the torture table
What else can they __________?

CHORUS
One day we'll _______ on their graves
One day we'll sing our ___________
One day we'll _______ in our joy
And we'll _______
One day we'll dance on their _______
One day we'll sing our _____
One day we'll laugh in our ___
And we'll dance
Ellas danzan con los desaparecidos
Danzan con los muertos
Danzan con amores invisibles
Con silenciosa angustia
Danzan con sus padres
Con sus hijos
Con sus esposos
Ellas danzan solas
Danzan solas
Hey Mr. Pinochet
You've sown a bitter crop
It's foreign money that supports you
One day the money's going to stop
No wages for your torturers
No budget for your guns
Can you think of your own mother

CHORUS
One day we'll _______ on their graves
One day we'll sing our ___________
One day we'll _______ in our joy
And we'll _______
One day we'll dance on their _______
One day we'll sing our _____
One day we'll laugh in our ___
And we'll dance

Activity 2) READING COMPREHENSION.

Read the following information and then answer the questions:

Sting is an English musician and composer. He is also an actor. In 1977 he started the band “The Police” and in 1985 he began his solo career. Since 1981, he has been working actively to defend human rights all over the world.

In 1988 Sting and other musicians, like the band U2, Bruce Springsteen, rock legend Peter Gabriel and singer and composer Tracy Chapman, gave a concert in Buenos Aires, sponsored by Amnesty International, an organization fighting for human rights.

The song you just heard, “They Dance Alone”, was inspired by the dictatorship in Chile (1973-1990). While playing it at his Bs. AS concert in 1988, Sting invited the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo to the stage as he performed the song back in 1988.

1.- Who is Sting?

2.- What is Amnesty International?

3 - Look for information about the holiday of March 24th in our country and try to explain in your own words what the holiday is about. (Hint: dictatorship).

4 - Why do you think Sting invited the Mothers of Plaza de Mayo to the stage in the Amnesty International Concert in 1988? (Think about the upcoming holiday of March 24th).

This time, you do not need to complete the activities in the comments. You can complete them in your binders or notebooks. I will give feedback on these activities and the ones of Class 1 on the 23rd. Next Monday we will not have virtual classes because of this holiday I am referring to.

I still have not received any comments in our previous class (Class 1). Remember, you have to complete the activities in there, in the comment section.

Anyways, if you or your parents have any doubts you can leave a comment and I will try to help you.

Cheers!

Miss Flor
